The Beginning

I have just completed reading the book of Genesis, and it is amazing! Now, I have read it before, but this time it was different. About a month ago I really prayed and asked God to reveal His word to me in a way that I have never experienced before. So... when I decided to sit down and read the Bible right from the beginning, God opened my eyes to so many things. The account of the creation was awesome, but what blew my mind was how merciful God was right from the beginning, even after Adam and Eve ate the fruit, He still took care of them. Even when God had to flood the earth he still was merciful to Noah and his family. God gives us the rainbow which is the covenant with man that God will never flood the earth, I will never look at another rainbow the same way again!
Genesis 9:13-17
I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and everyliving creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.”

My favorite part of Genesis is when Abram(who later became Abraham) is introduced. Right from the beginning God called Abram to pursue a land for himself and his descendants. I never knew this but Abram was a mighty warrior and he once defeated King Kedorlaomer's army and rescued his nephew Lot.

Genesis 14:14-16
When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men who had been born into his household. Then he pursued Kedorlaomer’s army until he caught up with them at Dan. There he divided his men and attacked during the night. Kedorlaomer’s army fled, but Abram chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.

I also learned who the Patriarchs are: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. These are the men through whom God was going to give descendants like the stars in the sky. They were also blessed, and their descendants were blessed. God made a covenant with these men, that He would be their God and they would be His people. The book of Genesis ends with the promise of God: He will bring you back to the land he solemnly promised to give to Abraham, to Isaac and Jacob.
