Doing the will of God

Scripture
John 4:31-34
Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus,
"Rabbi, eat something."
But Jesus replied, "I have a kind of food you
know nothing about."
"Did someone bring him food while we were
gone?" the disciples asked each other.
       Then Jesus explained:       "My nourishment
comes from doing the will of God, who sent me,
and from finishing his work."

Observation:
Jesus is telling us that spiritual things are more important than physical things. His disciples are more worried about their physical bodies than their spirits. The physical body is temporary but the spirit is eternal. I don't think Jesus is telling them never to eat food again, but he's trying to get them to prioritize their lives. He's telling them that doing the will of God is what sustains us, it's what nourishes us, not food. Here are some other related scriptures:

Matthew 4:4
"People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the
        mouth of God."

Matthew 6:31
"So don't worry about these things, saying,
'What will we eat? What will we drink? What will
we wear?'  These things dominate the thoughts
of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already
knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God
above all else, and live righteously, and he will
give you everything you need."

Application:
Jesus is telling the truth! I remember when I got saved 3 years ago, I was coming out of a life of drugs and foolishness, but God restored everything. I had lost my job, lost my car, lost my license, lost all my money and even lost my mind. All I had was Jesus and my new salvation. I had no choice but to trust God. I decided that I would do the work of God and leave the rest up to him. It was probably the most joyful time of my life, because the Lord and His words were my nourishment.

Philippians 4:6
Don't worry about anything; instead pray
about everything. Tell God what you need,
and thank him for all he has done. Then you
will experience God's peace, which exceeds
anything we can understand.

Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for everything you have done. Thank you for my salvation. Thank you for my wife and my daughter. Thank you for bringing me from that terrible life I was in. Thank you for sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. Give me the opportunity to tell others about the love of Jesus. Protect my family, my friends and my co-workers. In Jesus name, Amen.
