Jeremiah 6:10-11
To whom can I give warning?
Who will listen when I speak?
Their ears are closed,
and they cannot hear.
They scorn the word of the LORD.
they don't want to listen at all.
So now I am filled with the LORD'S fury.
Yes, I am tired of holding it in!
"I will pour out my fury on children playing in
the streets
and on gatherings of young men,
on husbands and wives
and on those who are old and gray.
Observation:
When I read this scripture about how people would not listen to the warning of the LORD, it made me think about a conversation I had with two co-workers about abortion. I was describing a video I had seen about how abortions are actually done, and how it was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen. I also said that after seeing the video, I can understand why people stand outside abortion clinics and try to convince women not to do it. Anyway, as I was describing this horrible operation, one of my co-workers started to justify why she thinks abortion is ok and my other co-worker said this, "I am not pro-abortion I'm pro-choice". Right away I knew I was in for a confrontation because I had to take a stand for Jesus and let them know what the Bible says about life inside the womb.
Job 31:15
For God created both me and my servants.
He created us both in the womb.
Psalm 22:9-10
Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God.
Psalm 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Application:
The reason this scripture about a warning from the Lord reminded me about the conversation with my co-workers is because I have been telling them about Jesus for a long time now. I have shared the Gospel and have also warned them about the return of Jesus Christ and the coming judgement. I know that my job as a Christian is only to be the messenger, and it is God's job to do the rest, but I have to admit, as long as I work there, I will continue to plead with them to repent and turn to Jesus! The issue of abortion has to do with agreeing with God. If God values the life of an unborn child, then we have to side with God. Being that they were unbelievers, it didn't surprise me that they didn't agree when I told them what the Bible said.
Acts 20:21
I have had one message for Jews and Greeks alike—the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus.
Romans 2:5-9
But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, I pray for the salvation of my co-workers. I know you have placed me there for a reason. I trust that you will make the seed of truth grow. Give me the strength to continue to share the Good News of Jesus with as many people as I can. Thank you for my salvation. Thank you for sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins. In Jesus name, Amen!
