Matthew 13:44-46 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
Observation:
Here are two men who found something of great value, the first one kind of stumbled across it, but the second one was searching for it. The treasure and the pearl both represent Jesus and the kingdom of heaven. It is interesting that both men had the same reaction, they sold everything they had to obtain this valuable object. Now... buying the field, or selling all he has, does not suggest earning one's salvation; instead the parables emphasize the supreme value of the treasure and the pearl.
Application:
Jesus Christ, is the treasure that found me! I would like to say that I stumbled across him or that I was searching for him, but the truth is, I was running from him. But... when Jesus was revealed to me, my heart changed into a heart that only beats for him, my lungs only breath for him. I'm deeply in love with Jesus Christ! Every time I sin, it tears me apart because he is so gracious and merciful. I will spend eternity enjoying and worshipping my treasure, Jesus Christ! But he's not a thing, like a treasure is a thing, he's The King of the Universe! I hope that you would discover the infinite value of Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 3:19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Questions:
- Are my thoughts constantly on Jesus?
- Do my words show that my heart beats for Christ?
- Do my actions show that my heart beats for Christ?
- Am I an undercover follower of Christ?
- Do my co-workers know that I love Jesus?
