Scripture:
John 14:6-7 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well.
Observation:
Is Jesus claiming to be God here? Is Jesus claiming to be the only way to enter heaven? Is Jesus making himself equal with God the Father? The answer is YES! The reason Jesus was crucified is because he claimed to be the only way to eternal life. John 10:31-33 says: Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?" they replied, "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
Application:
As Christians, our job is to proclaim this truth about Jesus, that he is King of kings and Lord of lords. We are to tell the world that he is the only way to God. It sounds narrow and close minded because it is. But truth is always narrow. So when I heard Rick Warren close the Inaugural Prayer with "In the name of the one who changed my life... Jesus", I was absolutely blown away that the name of Jesus could be brought so low. In other words he was being politically correct by not offending people. It's like calling Jesus A god and not thee God. Pagans would agree that Jesus can change people's lives, they would also agree that Jenny Craig has changed people's lives, or Richard Simmons has changed people's lives. As long as you don't say Jesus is the ONLY way, the world has no problem with Christians. I don't believe it's our job to try to make Jesus a friend of this world, John 15:18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first".
Names of Jesus: (just in case we forgot)
King of kings, Lord of lords, Almighty God, The way, The truth, The life, Prince of Peace, Alpha and Omega, Creator, Emmanuel(God with us), Everlasting Father, Son of God......etc
Prayer:
Dear Lord, your name is so Holy. Name above all names, King above all kings. Strengthen the body of Christ and give us a renewed boldness to proclaim your name. I pray that I would not strive to be relevant to this world, I pray that we would not fear man but only you Lord. Strengthen my brothers and sisters, forgive me for the times that I have been ashamed of the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for the times that I have made Jesus sound like A god instead of thee God. In Jesus precious and mighty name, Amen!
