Scripture
Ecclesiastes 1:12-14
I, the Teacher, was king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem. I devoted myself to search for understanding and to explore by wisdom everything being done under heaven. I soon discovered that God has dealt a tragic existence to the human race. I observed everything going on under the sun, and really, it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Observation
King Solomon found out that the greatest treasure that a man can posses is wisdom. And God was pleased to give King Solomon wisdom, greater than anyone who had ever lived. But Solomon found out that even the greatest treasures were all meaningless. He tried it all, pleasure, hard work, riches, and he found nothing but emptiness and misery.
Application
In my life, I have found this to be true also. All the pleasures and desires that this world offers are meaningless. Most of my life has been spent chasing after the desires of this world. 3 years ago, God totally turned my life upside down. Actually, according to the Bible, I didn't even have life. The Bible says that I was dead in trespasses and sins.
Philippians 3:8
Yes, everything is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ...
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the eternal treasure of Jesus Christ. Thank you for saving me from an eternity in hell. Thank you for your wonderful grace and mercy. Help me to know more about Jesus. Help me to share with others about the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ. Give me an increasing hunger and desire to seek you and your kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen!
